Nominees for Bishop’s Committee (Three year terms, 2019-2022)
Ellen Burton is an Indiana transplant of 11 years, originally from St. Louis by way of Boston and Washington DC. She came to Good Sam’s two years ago looking for a way to connect more with her community and with like-minded individuals hoping to be of service to those around them. Good Sam’s has more than surpassed her hopes for this and Ellen has been involved in the outreach ministry, early gardening efforts at Harris, and the Good Sam’s choir. When not at Good Samaritan, Ellen works in public health with a focus on older adults and healthy aging. She lives on the westside of Indianapolis with her 5 year old son Simon and a 10 year-old rabbit named Sheldon. She is the current household Scrabble champion.
Erin Tanner has deep roots in the Hendricks County community. Her family settled just south of Plainfield in the early 1820s and started an apple orchard and farm that operated until the early 1990s. She graduated from Plainfield High School and then went on to college at IU in Bloomington and Indiana Wesleyan University. She has worked in IT, HR and Finance and for the last 14 years has worked exclusively with nonprofit organizations. She has volunteered with and been on the board of many local nonprofits including Family Promise of Hendricks County, The United Way of Hendricks County’s Emergency Food Shelter Program Board, Vice President of Plainfield Optimist Club and the Plainfield Federation of Churches. Growing up and into adulthood she was an active member of Plainfield Christian Church. A desire for being a part of an inclusive body of believers brought her to Good Samaritan Episcopal church where she has finally found her home.
