We are starting a Porch Drop opportunity for The Gathering Together, hospice home in Plainfield, run by a nurse whose mission is to care for those who are passing on. The founder is Rita Fiorentino. Rita has been doing this for 20+ years, and she and her volunteers work completely free of charge to care for their critically ill patients. This is a nonprofit organization; they get no insurance money, no Medicare… nothing but donations. They have a small house next door where they have a store and sell craft items made by volunteers in order to raise money. You can donate any of the following items at one of our 3 Porch Drop locations listed below:
- Postage stamps
- Small and regular-sized bottled waters (not large bottles)
- EcoDry brand (light and very soft) bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths (found at Meijer)
- Gift certificates for any place with craft supplies and other supplies including Amazon, JoAnn Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, WalMart, or any grocery store

Rita can definitely use some volunteers to help work with patients as caregivers and other assorted tasks. Rita can be contacted at 317-979-2795. If you would like to meet her or drop things off yourself, please be sure to call first. They can use items that have been crafted as long as they are very well made, or antiques or interesting other items that have value. It’s a small store, so they must maximize the value of the space.
