As part of our Growing Courageous Neighbors programming, we are pleased to announce an online discussion of Jennifer Harvey’s book, Raising White Kids.
The Rev. Dr. Jennifer Harvey is an award-winning author, educator, and public speaker. Her work focuses on ethics and race, gender, sexuality, activism, spirituality and politics—with particular attention to how religion shows up in these dimensions of our shared social life. Her greatest passion and longtime work, however, persistently and pointedly return to racial justice and white anti-racism. In her book, Raising White Kids, Jennifer takes a deep look into important questions when it comes to teaching our children about racism and injustice.
“A great deal of public discussion exists about the impact of race and racism on children of color, but meaningful dialogue about and resources for understanding the impact of race on white children are woefully lacking. Raising White Kids steps into that void. It offers accessible pathways that point us toward the collective and urgent work of nurturing anti-racism among white children and youth.” from jenniferharvey.org.
We will meet on Wednesday evenings at 7 – 8 p.m., May 6th -27th. Good Samaritan is purchasing copies of the book to distribute to each adult interested in taking part. To receive your book, please register here.
